Great Lengths hair arrives at the Great Lengths factory in Rome in its virgin state- never having been dyed, bleached or processed in any way.
At the factory it undergoes a special process of de-pigmentation that doesn’t involve bleach or harsh chemicals which strip the hair of it’s cuticle layer. This process is similar to how the finest cashmere is treated before colouring.

The cuticle is the hard, outer layer which acts as a protective barrier for the softer inner structure. The cuticle is the first line of defence against all forms of damage. Removing the cuticle strips the hair of its natural shine leaving it dull and lifeless.
Through de-pigmentation, the black pigments are slowly lifted from inside the hair, not from the outside as it happens with ammonium derivatives such as bleach which damage the hair’s cuticle, and make the hair colour fade quickly. Once the color molecules are lifted from the hair, the new colour pigment has a clean, empty space to occupy. This colour replacement means that Great Lengths hair extensions keep their colour much as natural hair keeps its colour from root to tip.
