A further Maintenance check is required approximately 8 weeks after initial application.
To maintain the integrity of any Great Lengths service it is essential that you observe the guidelines below.
Care for your extensions
GENERAL
Some hair loss is normal – as with natural hair. Since an average person’s hair loss is between 50-150 hairs a day and a full head of extensions covers 1/3 of a head, you can expect to see a small quantity of naturally released hair trapped in the attachments after some time. This is quite normal and should not be interpreted as hairs being pulled out of the scalp by the extensions themselves. Daily brushing and finger separation of the applied strands will avoid matting in the area.
Two weeks after Great Lengths have been applied to the hair, return to the salon for a maintenance check.
Activities that result in a constant damp environment such as regularly scheduled aerobics, gymnastics; steam baths or saunas may lessen the longevity of the Great lengths service. Precautions should be taken to avoid these conditions frequently.
SHAMPOOING, CONDITIONING & DRYING
Do not shampoo your hair for 48 hours after your Great Lengths service, including initial and maintenance services. This will give enough time for the bonds to settle and ensure that your extensions will not slide out through premature contact with cleansing chemicals.
Avoiding drying in a scrubbing motion. Dry you hair by wrapping it with a Great Lengths Micro fibre head wrap or a towel to remove moisture.
Always dry the base area thoroughly to avoid bond breakdown.
If using a blow dryer, use a medium to low heat and finish with a cool shot once the hair is completely dry.
PRODUCTS
Hair should be washed at least once a week. Only use products recommended by your stylist.
We highly recommend Great lengths products (shampoos, conditioners, styling products, anti-tap water.)
Do not use products that contain sulphur, such as dandruff shampoo. Also avoid protein treatments and products that contain silicones as this can break down the bonds.
BRUSHING AND COMBING
Brush with a Great Lengths brush 2-3 times a day starting at the nape and working upwards. Use a wide toothed comb to remove tangles from hair ends. Do not use a comb in the area between the scalp and the Great Lengths bonds.
PRIOR TO BEDTIME
It is also recommended that you pull you hair back in a soft ponytail or loose plait before bed as this prevents tangling while sleeping. Great Lengths Satin pillowcases ensure that hair is able to move freely causing less tangling.
CURLING IRONS/HOT ROLLERS
Curling irons and hot rollers may be used on Great Lengths, but they must be kept an adequate distance from the Great Lengths bonds.
SWIMMING
Sea water and swimming pool chemicals can cause bond breakage and decrease the longevity of the Great Lengths extensions. To minimise these effects, prior to swimming, wet the hair completely in the shower. After swimming, immediately rinse the hair and dry the base area.
